Tipperary is a registered charity and voluntary youth work
organisation. YWIT is leading provider of youth work programmes and
services to young people in Tipperary. Applications are now invited
from suitably qualified persons for the following post.

JOB TITLE: Intercultural Worker ? Tipperary Refugee Resettlement
Project

The purpose of this job is to implement the Tipperary Refugee
Resettlement project, working as a team member to support refugee
families who have been displaced by the conflict in Syria to resettle
in Co Tipperary. The Intercultural Workers will support the work of
two Resettlement Support Workers to support the resettlement and
integration of the new families into their host communities and towns.

THE INTERCULTURAL WORKER WILL:

* Work as part of a team to develop the provision of quality supports
to the Syrian families who will be resettlement in Co Tipperary. This
will involve a range of supports meeting the needs of the different
families and age groups and will operate through a person centred
approach.
* Work with the families to build their confidence to act
independently whenever they can, while providing them with adequate
support while doing so.
* Work flexibly with the families to meet their initial needs in
relation to settling into their new homes, building up relationships
with schools, health services, youth and community services, learning
English and generally settling into their communities. Support the
participation of the children and young people in youth and after
school activities and to co-facilitate or to translate where
necessary.
* Provide language translation and cultural understanding for the
families when communicating with external agencies such as MABs,
Barnardos, Department of Social Protection, Housing Section of the
Local Authority, Youth and Community services, the local partnership
companies and any other services with which the families need to
interact.
* Support the families to access appropriate religious services and
facilities including sourcing transport supports. Support other key
workers to prepare appropriate materials, to coincide with important
religious and cultural events/festivals so that the families feel
their own cultural and ethnic background is respected as part of this
learning process.
* Have a role in mediating when cultural misunderstandings arise.
* Work with local community/volunteer structures and local support
groups and networks to ensure positive integration in the long term.
